A tree is a marvellous piece of organic engineering. Its spreads out its branches forming a balanced structure. Meanwhile, its roots thrust deep in the earth for support. The branches and roots are flexible, enabling them to give and take to gusting wind. Tree trimming during storm season should complement this, and leave the balance intact.
All trees have a natural cycle that begins with perfect health, but ends with fungus and insect infections that eventually bring them down. Sunshine Coast Tree Services helps them live longer through judicious pruning.
Sometimes we also have to interfere when branches reach out over roofs, and across boundaries to increase insurance risks. We know how to preserve tree balance and maintain a pleasant appearance when dealing with this.
However, the focus for this article falls more on what’s best when branches start to crack and split, and even come crashing down. If you call Sunshine Coast Tree Services we’ll quote to solve this with pleasure!
1. We don’t believe in topping trees by removing side branches and leaving large limbs intact with few leaves. That’s because wood rot can take hold in the scars, and potentially spread throughout the tree. Besides, any new branches that sprout could break away from the trunk when they are large.
2. However, we do believe in reshaping canopies when tree trimming during storm season. Thinning a canopy of individual branches in mature trees does more than make it possible for light to enter the garden. It also allows wind to pass through the canopy, considerably reducing the chance of storm damage.
3. Multiple trunks on single trees reduce the available nutrients for each one. They may look cute as saplings, but they will not grow as strong. We recommend singling one out and removing the others before they split away during a storm. This should reduce the likelihood of wind damage and improve your insurance risk.
4. But our tree trimming services go further than that. We also examine the shapes of side branches, because we know those that reach vertically as ‘second trunks’ are more likely to start splitting away and admit rot. By the same token, branches that reach out sideways should be better attached to trunks.
5. Tree roots, as we mentioned earlier are the foundations of large trees. They reach out below ground to mirror the spread of the canopy above. If a branch falls down we recommend leaving the corresponding roots intact. For if we remove them when tree felling in storm season, we could disrupt the balance further.
There’s more to tree felling than cutting away and chipping the debris for garden mulch. Contact Sunshine Coast Tree Services for a friendly quote without any obligation.
